  • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator Voyage IN2020_V01, titled: “Development of William’s Ridge, Kerguelen Plateau: tectonics, hotspot magmatism, microcontinents, and Australia’s Extended Continental Shelf” between January 08 and March 06, 2020 departing from Henderson (WA) and returning back to Fremantle (WA). The Kongsberg EM122 multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter at Rig Seismic Seamount, Williams Ridge, Broken Ridge and on associated transits. The EM122 provides a 1 degree by 1 degree angular resolution. The echosounder's nominal frequency is 12 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 2164 files totalling 174 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format. Additional information regarding this dataset, including information on processing streams, is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report.     The Science Plan for WAMSI Node 1 Project 1 characterised the south west Australian marine coastal and shelf ecosystem structure and function. Mooring progam An array of instruments was deployed four times between July2007 and May 2008, recovered after 4-6 weeks each time to download data, and service the instruments. CTD Surveys During the course of the mooring program a ctd survey of the region was completed at approximately monthly intervals using the RV Linnaeus. In the first 2 surveys a grid of 25 stations was occupied after which a further 5 stations were added to the northern end of the grid.

    Within this experiment the blue mussel ( Mytilus edulis ) is being used as a proxy indicator to understand rates of secondary production across the continental shelf off Marmion WA. The experiment is being run at 5m depth intervals between 0 and 40 meters. Length and width of valves and wet/dry weights of tissue matter are being measured to compare condition and growth rates of individuals from different depths. Stable isotope values are obtained to compare relative C13 and N15 values, to understand if there is a difference in diet across the shelf. Water sampling is also being carried out and regular intervals whilst the experiment is deployed to investigate differences in Particulate organic matter, Chl-a, HPLC and isotope values of organic matter in the water column, to aid in explaining variation in growth and diet patterns.

    These data, reported in CSIRO's "Oceanographic Station List" series in 1957, comprise mainly measurements of surface temperature, and salinity (as chlorinity), from sea surface samples collected by the merchant ships MV "Dulverton", MV "Kabbarli" and MV "Duntroon". Sampling was only carried out in one year (1956). The merchant vessel sampling program was carried out at a time when the CSIRO Division of Fisheries had no dedicated ocean-going research vessel, as a means of acquiring information about offshore waters. In the volumes cited, similar data are also reported from the Tasman Sea, Coral Sea, and south-eastern Australian waters and Bass Strait.

  • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Linnaeus voyage LI2019_V01, 'Ningaloo Deepwater Reefs Hydrographic Survey' which departed Hillary's Boat Harbour, Perth, WA on the 15th March 2019 and concluded at Coral Bay, WA on the 29th March 2019. The Kongsberg EM2040c multibeam echosounder (single transceiver) was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information (and watercolumn backscatter) offshores of Ningaloo Reef, WA. Transit data to and from nightly anchorages has also been recorded. The EM2040c provides a 1.3° by 1.3° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively (single transceiver). The echosounder's nominal frequency range was 200 kHz and it was operated in dual swath mode. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 140 files totalling 32.5 GB of raw .all data, and 103 files totalling 178 GB of raw .wcd in the dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were applied to the processed data in Caris using a GPS Tide based on the Applanix PosMV and Marinestar G4+ Ellipsoidal ht and thereafter reduced to AHD (Australian Height Datum) using a AusGeoid09 model. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format.     This biological overview for the Southern Surveyor voyage SS 07/2005. The voyage took place off the Western Australian Coast during July August 2005. This dataset has been partly processed and has not yet been archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report. On this cruise pigments and chlorophyll a were collected by Neale Johnston and later processed at CMAR, Hobart by Pru Bonham.

The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter around offshore Perth. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 194 files totalling 27.2 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter between Darwin and Henderson. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 258 *.raw files totalling 70.4 GB and 257 *.wcd files totalling 464 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed.     This data set contains Simrad EK500 single beam echosounder data at 38 and 120 kHz and Simrad EA500 single beam echosounder data at 12 kHz from the Southern Surveyor. The EK500 data is primarily for water column characterisation (fish stocks, microplankton distribution) and on occasions for seabed classification (particularly prior to the EM300 swath mapper being installed), while the EA500 data is primarily for bathymetric readings.
