    This dataset contains the Underway (UWY) data collected on commercial ferries plying the Rottnest to mainland route. Voyages take place on a commercial schedule. A Seabird SBE38 sensor is permanently mounted on the ferry in the engine cooling waster intake. A monitoring computer records sea surface temperature whenever the vessel achieves more than a minimum preprogrammed speed over ground. Position is determined from a GPS unit. Data is transmitted to CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research centre in Hobart on the hour every hour. The vessel traverses the route from Hillarys Boat harbour to Rottnest 3 or four times per day except during a winter vessel maintenance period. This dataset has been processed and is archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Floreat.

  • This record describes the Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator voyage IN2016_V03 Titled: "Monitoring Ocean Change and Variability along 170W from the ice edge to the equator ". The voyage took place between the 26th April to 30th of June, 2016 departing Hobart and arriving in Lautoka (Fiji). The voyage comprises of two Legs: Leg-1: Hobart to Wellington (NZ) from 26 April to 26 May 2016 Leg-2: Wellington to Lautoka (Fiji) from 27 May to 30 June 2016 Standard Underway data is continuously recorded, it consists of: (1) NAV: Navigation data: (dual GPS) Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, course over ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log. (2) TSG: Thermosalinograph: Water Salinity, flow-rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, and pCO2. (3) MET: Atmospheric (port and starboard): Humidity, Wind speed and direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer, Pyranometer, PAR, Air temperature, Air pressure, Rain, Ozone and Trace gases. Data are recorded at 5 second intervals. Near real-time data is available via the link below. This dataset will be processed and archived within the CSIRO Oceans & Atmosphere Data Centre in Hobart. Data is available in 5sec intervals in NetCDF, 10 sec and 5 min intervals in ascii format.   • This record describes the Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator research voyage in2017_v01, titled "Interactions of the Totten Glacier with the Southern Ocean through multiple glacial cycles." The voyage took place from Hobart (TAS) to Hobart between the 14th January and 5th March, 2017. Standard Underway data is continuously recorded, it consists of: (1) NAV: Navigation data: (dual GPS) Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, course over ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log. (2) TSG: Thermosalinograph: Water Salinity, flow-rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, and pCO2. Voyage Title: IMOS mooring deployment and Rottnest Reference Station Monitoring The voyage took place on the 19th March 2014 from Hillarys (WA) to the Perth Canyon and return to Hillarys (WA) to recover two moorings and deploy two IMOS CTDs. The voyage took place on the 6th May 2015. The purpose of the voyage was to deploy Acoustic Wave and Current (AWAC) instruments near Garden Island (MarLIN record number: 14487). There were no CTD deployments undertaken during the voyage. Fluorometer sensor data were deleted from this voyage due to sensor fouling from a previous voyage.
