These data, reported in various volumes of CSIRO's "Oceanographic Station List" series between 1957 and 1962, comprise mainly measurements of surface temperature, salinity (as chlorinity), and (in later stages) phosphate from sea surface samples collected by merchant ships in Bass Strait and surrounding waters. Vessels contributing t the sampling program include TSS "Taroona" and "Princess of Tasmania, SS "Talune", and MVs "Claire Crouch", "Denman", Century", "Jillian Crouch", "Lorinna", "Marra", "Pateena", "Poolta", "Risdon", and "Wareatea". Sampling began in December 1954 and was still in progress December 1960, the last date for which data were published in this series. The merchant vessel sampling program was carried out at a time when the CSIRO Division of Fisheries had no dedicated ocean-going research vessel, as a means of acquiring information about offshore waters. In the volumes cited, similar data are also reported from the Coral Sea, Tasman Sea, and the south-east Indian Ocean.
These data, reported in CSIRO's "Oceanographic Station List" series in 1957, comprise mainly measurements of surface temperature, and salinity (as chlorinity), from sea surface samples collected by the merchant ships MV "Dulverton", MV "Kabbarli" and MV "Duntroon". Sampling was only carried out in one year (1956). The merchant vessel sampling program was carried out at a time when the CSIRO Division of Fisheries had no dedicated ocean-going research vessel, as a means of acquiring information about offshore waters. In the volumes cited, similar data are also reported from the Tasman Sea, Coral Sea, and south-eastern Australian waters and Bass Strait.
These data, reported in various volumes of CSIRO's "Oceanographic Station List" series between 1955 and 1962, comprise mainly measurements of surface temperature, salinity (as chlorinity), and (in later stages) phosphate from sea surface samples collected by the merchant ship TSMV "Wanganella" on regular runs between Sydney and Auckland or Wellengton, New Zealand. Sampling began in December 1952 and was still in progress December 1960, the last date for which data were published in this series. The merchant vessel sampling program was carried out at a time when the CSIRO Division of Fisheries had no dedicated ocean-going research vessel, as a means of acquiring information about offshore waters. This dataset contains the Hydrology (HYD) data collected on Franklin voyage FR 03/1985. The voyage took place in the Tasman and Coral Seas during 8-27 June 1985. This dataset has been processed and archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report (as available). Franklin on-voyage hydrology data are typically obtained from water samples collected in Niskin bottles at various depths during each CTD cast. Parameters measured normally comprise temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, silicate and nitrite.
This dataset contains the processed Hydrology (HYD) data collected on Franklin voyage FR 10/86 by the first operational test of the Programmable Water Sampler (PWS) and the Sample Separator (SS) at sea. The voyage took place in the Tasman Sea from 9-19 December 1986. This dataset has been processed and is archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report (as available). Note: This data appears to be test data.
These data, reported in various volumes of CSIRO's "Oceanographical Station List" series between 1952 and 1957, comprise mainly measurements of temperature, salinity, nitrate, phosphate, and dissolved oxygen at estuary mouths and upstream for various distances, ranging from a few miles to almost 150 miles in some cases: e.g. for Tasmania's Derwent River, 20 stations were measured including various tributaries (Clyde, Ouse, Nive and Shannon) as well as lakes in the river system (Great Lake, Lake St. Clair). Sampling started in the 1940s and included the Nerang and Coomera Rivers, Moreton Bay and Brisbane River, Logan River and Dunwich Oyster Lease (QLD); Richmond River, Clarence River, Macleay River, Hastings River, Manning River, Port Stephens, Tilligerry Creek, Hawkesbury River, Middle Harbour and Port Jackson, Georges River-Botany Bay, Port Hacking, Lake Illawarra, Shoalhaven River, Jervis Bay, Clyde River, Moruya River, Tuross River, and Wagonga Inlet (NSW); Port Phillip Heads (VIC); and Tamar River, Derwent River, Huon River, D'Entrecasteaux Channel, Lake Dobson, and Penna Dam (TAS). In the early 1950s the study was extended to Fitzroy River, Mary River, Gladstone Harbour, Sandy Island Strait and Moreton Island Lagoon (QLD); Maianbar-Port Hacking and Lake Macquarie (NSW); Pittwater (TAS); and King George Sound, Wilson's Inlet, Nornalup Inlet, Hardy Inlet, Leschanault Inlet, Peel-Harvey Estuary and Swan River (WA). 24-hour studies were carried out at some of the sites, and bottom samples also taken for measuring phosphorus, iron, organic carbon and total nitrogen. By 1955-6, sampling was being mostly discontinued in favour of coastal station monitoring, with the exception of Lake Macquarie which was at that time the focus of a major study.
These data comprise measurements of surface temperature, salinity and phosphate from sea surface samples collected by an officer of CSIRO Division of Fisheries & Oceanography on board a routine supply voyage to Antarctica by the Antarctic Division's vessel M.V. "Magga Dan" in January-March 1959. Pigment samples (chlorophylls a, b, c and astacin) and CO2 uptake (productivity) were also measured at 0 and 25m depth at some stations, along with dry weights of zooplankton (plus phytoplankton) in 100m-to-surface plankton net tows. Phytoplankton counts were also stated to have been made although no data appear in the published list. The data were published in CSIRO's "Oceanographic Station List" series in 1960.
This dataset contains oceanographic data collected at a coastal station off Jervis Bay, New South Wales/A.C.T. (lat. 35 deg. 07 min. S, long. 150 deg. 52 min. E) between September 1958 and July 1960. The station was set up under the CSIRO coastal monitoring programme in the 1950s and was sampled on a few occasions only for temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. Data from 1960 only are stored on-line as part of the CMR hydrology archive in Hobart. Additional copies of the data are deposited with the NODC data archive (World Data Centre-A) in the U.S.A., and details of relevant data files can be viewed via their website by requesting the file inventory for this coastal station which is NODC platform code "09F5". Station details, plus printed versions of the 1958 data, have been published in CSIRO's "Oceanographical Station List" series. NB - As the database has been lost, the only data still available are those published in the JERVIS BAY BASELINE STUDIES Final Report.
This dataset contains oceanographic data collected at a series of 50m to 400 m coastal stations off Kiama, New South Wales (lat. 34 deg. 40 min. S, long. 150 deg. 53 min. E to 151 deg 10 min E) in 1958 and at lat. 35 deg. 40 min. S, long. 150 deg. 30 min. E in 1960. The station was set up under the CSIRO coastal monitoring programme in the 1950s and was sampled for temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen at depths intervals of 10m or greater, below the surface. Sampling was undertaken on one date in September 1958, and again between February and July 1960. The data are stored on-line as part of the CMR hydrology archive in Hobart. Additional copies of the 1960 data are deposited with the NODC data archive (World Data Centre-A) in the U.S.A., and details of relevant data files can be viewed via their website by requesting the file inventory for this coastal station which is NODC platform code "09F4". Station details, plus printed versions of the 1958 data, have been published in CSIRO's "Oceanographical Station List" series.
