This record describes the trace metal dataset from the MNF RV Franklin survey FR 07/1997, titled "TROPICS97 Tropical River-Ocean Processes in Coastal Settings." The survey departed Madang (Papua New Guinea) on August 4, 1997 and arrived in Townsville (QLD) on August 22, 1997. Samples were collected from the Sepik river and from each end of the N-S transects (~ 150 km long) off the coast of PNG. These stations were upstream of the plume (145 E), off the Sepik and downstream, or in, the plume (144 E and 143 E). Samples were also collected along the equator 143 E, 147 E, 149 E and 152 E. Samples were generally collected from surface to ~ 300m except equator station at 152 E where samples were collected to 2000m. Parameters: Concentrations of unfiltered (total dissolvable) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. Four inshore stations and a Sepik river station (18 samples) included filtered (total dissolved) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. More information is available from the Data Documentation link below.
This record describes the trace metal dataset from the MNF RV Franklin survey FR 01/2000, titled "TROPICS 2000: A continuing investigation on the supply of nutrients, organics and trace metals to the equatorial region from the Sepik River and their influence on coastal and oceanic primary production." The survey departed Cairns (QLD) on January 14, 2000 and arrived in Rabaul (Papua New Guinea) on February 3, 2000. Samples were collected from the Vitiaz Strait, along a transect from the Sepik River to Manus Island, in the New Guinea Coastal Undercurrent (NGCU) at 144 E and 143 E, and along the equator at 143E and 150E. 84 TM samples were collected, including 6 filtered samples and 3 quality control blanks and 75 salinities. Parameters: Concentrations of unfiltered (total dissolvable) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. One station with 6 samples included filtered (total dissolved) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. More information is available from the Data Documentation link below.
This record describes the Iron(II) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2016_V01 titled: "HEOBI: Heard Earth-Ocean-Biosphere Interactions." The voyage took place from Fremantle (WA) to Hobart (TAS) between January 7 and February 27, 2016. This dataset was produced as part of the project "Heard Earth-Ocean-Biosphere Interactions (HEOBI), GEOTRACES process study GIpr05." Samples were analysed using Flow Injection Analysis – Chemiluminescence (FIA-CL) method on-board during the voyage. Voyage, date, time, latitude, longitude, sampling site (TMR), bottle numbers and depths are included. The collected data were subsequently archived within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset may be contained in the Voyage Summary and the CTD Data Processing Report.
The Australian Equatorial JGOFS (OzGOFS) investigations were conducted on three cruises in 1990, 1992 and 1993 on transects along between 6oN and 2oS along 147oE and between about 12oS to 10oN along 155oE. FR 08/90 was made between 2-17 October 1990; FR 05/92 between 15 June and 13 July 1992, and FR 08/93 between 5 November and 1 December 1993. Data from the two legs of FR 05/92 have been combined into a single “cruise” on the disk. The cruise in 1990 (FR 08/90) was carried out after the 1988/89 La Nina but before the 1991/92 El Nino event. The cruises in 1992 (FR 05/92) and 1993 (FR 08/93) were done during the middle and end of a prolonged El Nino event. The objectives of the cruises were: 1) To measure vertical and horizontal profiles of pH, carbon dioxide and fluorescence in waters of the western equatorial Pacific Ocean. 2) To study the primary and secondary productivity of these waters. 3) To study the physical, chemical and biological processes that determines the vertical fluxes of carbon across the air-sea interface and within the water column. 4) To study the chemical, physical and biological processes leading to increased biomass along the equator at the western boundary of the Pacific Ocean. 5) To use chemical methods, such as lipid and pigment analyses, to characterize the phytoplankton community structure within different water masses. Data includes Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data, chlorophyll-a and phytoplankton pigments, CTD, cyanobacteria and bacteria, natural radionuclides, nutrients, primary production, sediment trap data, surface fCO2, trace metals and zooplankton data.
