  • This record describes sub bottom profiler data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2015_E05, which departed Hobart 2015-05-01 and returned on 2015-05-05. The Kongsberg SBP120 (sub bottom profiler) was used to acquire data containing the specular reflections at different sediment interfaces below the seafloor. The SBP120 provides a 3° by 3° angular resolution. The echosounder's frequency sweep range is from 2.5 to 7 kHz. The SBP120 was logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in *.raw (31 files 3.17 GB) raw and *.seg (31 files 3.16 GB) segy formats at CSIRO. The segy format data had a real time processing stream applied, which applies gain, a gain correction, matched filter with replica shaping, an attribute calculation for instantaneous amplitude and time variable gain.   • This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage, IN2015_E05, which departed Hobart 2015-05-01 and returned on 2015-05-05. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders, 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire data. All frequencies were logged for the extent of the voyage. KSync settings were tested for interference with all the ship board acoustic instruments. Data are stored in *.raw, *.bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 66 files totalling 785 MB of raw data in this dataset. No processing has been conducted on this data.   • This record describes atmospheric greenhouse data collected by a Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) analyzer (Picarro G2301, PICARRO Inc., USA) collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2015_E05. This is a trial voyage involving Geoscience, testing equipment and developing procedures, departing Hobart on the 1st May 2015 and returning to Hobart on the 5th May 2015. The Picarro G2301 atmospheric trace gas analyzer measures carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and water (H2O) vapour in air. The analyzer is a wavelength-scanned laser-based CRDS spectrometer.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2015_E05, which departed Hobart 2015-05-01 and returned on 2015-05-05. The Kongsberg EM710 multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information along the east coast slope offshore from Freycinet Peninsula. Ping rate varied according to depth. Data are stored in *.all raw format at CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere. There are 48 files totaling 3.9 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles using sea surface temperature were applied to this data during data acquisition. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Due to the shallow nature of the inshore site and the duration of this survey over several tides, tide corrections will need to be applied from AusTides or from the data from the Triabunna tidal station. Processed data are available in XYZ and GSF format. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report.   • This record describes Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator Voyage IN2015_E05. This is a trial voyage involving Geoscience, testing equipment and developing procedures, departing Hobart on the 1st of May 2015 and returning to Hobart on the 5th of May 2015. Standard Underway data is continuously recorded (refer to Attributes Overview): (1) Navigation data (NAV): Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, course over ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log (dual GPS instrument). (2) Thermosalinograph (TSG): Water Salinity, flow-rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, and pCO2. (3) Atmospheric (MET): Humidity, Wind speed and direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer, Pyranometer, PAR, Air temperature, Air pressure, rain and optical rain, Ozone and Trace gases (port and starboard instruments). Data are recorded at 5 second intervals. Near real-time data are available via the link "Visualisation tool for Underway Data." This dataset will not be processed, however raw unQC'd data can be supplied upon request. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the Cruise Summary Report for this voyage.

  • This record describes the End of Voyage (EOV) archive from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator trial voyage IN2015_E05 - Geoscience, testing equipment and developing procedures. This trial voyage took place from Hobart to Hobart departing on the 1st May and returning on the 5th May, 2015. Data collected included Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP)-(75, 150 KHz), Underway (UWY), SST Radiometer, Atmospheric data (Absorption Photometer, Nephelometer, Ozone and Radon), Greenhouse data (Aerodyne and Picarro), Underway pCO2, Echosounders (18, 38, 70, 120, 200, 333 kHz), Multibeam (EM122, EM710, ME70 and SBP120) and XBT. The EOV paper documentation - Multibeam: EM122, EM710, SBP120, XBT Logs and GSM pre-voyage checklist, were scanned, archived and entered in the records management system TRIM, reference "in2015_e05". ELOG files were generated as .csv and archived. All voyage documentation is archived c/o the Data Centre in Hobart available electronically to MNF support via the local network "global_docs". Access to voyage documentation for non CSIRO participants can be made via DataLibrariansOAMNF@csiro.au. The archive for the IN2015_E05 EOV data will be held temporarily within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere Data Centre in Hobart with a permanent archive to be located at the CSIRO Data Access Portal (DAP), providing access to participants and processors of the data collected on the Marine National Facility RV Investigator IN2015_E05

  • This record describes some Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator, which are not part of research datasets and have not been processed or quality-controlled. This includes data from most "Gear trials" voyages (identified by the survey name suffix "_eNN"). Underway data from these voyages are usually not processed unless requested. While RV Investigator is at sea, standard Underway data are continuously recorded, consisting of: (1) Navigation data (NAV): Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, Course Over Ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log (dual GPS instrument). (2) Thermosalinograph (TSG): Water Salinity, Flow-Rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, pCO2 and Optode/Oxygen. (3) Atmospheric (MET): Humidity, Wind Speed and Direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer/Sea Surface Temperature, Pyranometer/Solar Radiation, Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), Air Temperature, Air Pressure, Rain, Ozone and Trace Gases (port and starboard instruments). During the voyage, near real-time data are available from the MNF tool NRUD (Near Real-Time Underway Data) via the link "Visualisation tool for Underway Data" below. To request access after the voyage please contact the data custodian. The Underway data collected during research voyages (identified by the survey name suffix "_vNN") are processed and quality-controlled by the Marine National Facility (MNF). The processed datasets from these voyages are made available at time intervals of 5 sec (NetCDF format), 5 sec, 10 sec, 1 min and 5 min (ASCII/CSV format) through a voyage-specific metadata record. Additional information regarding processed datasets is available in the Voyage Summary and/or the Data Processing Reports linked to the relevant metadata records.

  • This record describes the ISAR/SST Sea Surface Temperature data collected on the RV Investigator Voyages from 2014 onwards. The infrared SST autonomous radiometer (ISAR) is a self-calibrating instrument capable of measuring in situ sea surface skin temperature to an accuracy of 0.1 K. The SST Radiometer is mounted on the port bridge wing, approximately 19.593m above the summer load line. The RV Investigator ISAR skin SST data are also supplied both in real-time (http://thredds.aodn.org.au/thredds/catalog/IMOS/SOOP/SOOP-ASF/VLMJ_Investigator/meteorological_sst_observations/catalog.html) and in delayed mode after reprocessing (e.g., http://thredds.aodn.org.au/thredds/catalog/IMOS/SOOP/SOOP-ASF/VLMJ_Investigator/meteorological_sst_observations/2016/ISAR-QC/catalog.html). These reprocessed files will be particularly valuable for satellite SST validation (as the ISAR measures SST at the same depth as measured by satellites) and are currently (2017) being used by EUMETSAT for Sentinel-3 SST validation and to JMA and Oceans University China for Himawari-8 SST validation.   • The Radon measurements are obtained from a sensor mounted on the Research Vessel RV Investigator of the Australian Marine National Facility (MNF) managed by CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A), and processed by ANSTO's Institute for Environmental Research. The dataset includes quality-controlled data collected from 2014 onwards. The RV Investigator voyages where data was collected and processed are listed below in this record.
