    This dataset contains data collected by the Australian Continuous Plankton Recorder (AusCPR) survey and is funded by IMOS (Ships of Opportunity sub-facility) and CSIRO. The aims of the AusCPR survey are to: * map plankton biodiversity and distribution * develop the first long-term plankton baseline for Australian waters * document plankton changes in response to climate change * provide indices for fisheries management * detect harmful algal blooms * validate satellite remote sensing * initialise and test ecosystem models. The survey conducts repeat tows in the GBR, the East Australian Current and down to the Southern Ocean Time Series Mooring (SOTS). Other routes are conducted on an adhoc nature around Australia. The dataset also contains phytoplankton data from the UTAS / AAD led Southern Ocean CPR (SOCPR) project which is also funded by IMOS. The datasets available in this collection include Phytoplankton Colour Index (an estimate of chlorophyll in the water), phytoplankton abundance, zooplankton abundance and a biomass index from AusCPR and phytoplankton abundance from SOCPR. This data are freely available through the AODN portal: https://portal.aodn.org.au. This data is freely available but please acknowledge all relevant parties, as detailed in acknowledgement section.

    This dataset contains temperature data from the TOGA/WOCE transects PX8 (Auckland-Panama), PX17 (Tahiti-Panama) and PX28 (Tahiti-Auckland) across the Pacific Ocean. Data were collected between August 1984 and November 1986, the transect was repeated about 30 times. The data were obtained from XBTs (expendable bathythermographs) deployed via deployed via the Ship-of-Opportunity Program (SOOP) of the IOC/WMO Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS), and are now managed by the Joint Australian Facility for Ocean Observing Systems (JAFOOS), a collaborative venture between CSIRO Marine Research and the Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre (BMRC).

  • This dataset contains the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data collected on Franklin voyage FR 05/2001. The voyage took place in The Pacific Ocean in waters off Wellington New Zealand via the Chatham Rise then north to the equator during May, June and July 2001. This dataset has been processed and archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report (as available).

  • This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2022_V02, titled "Sedimentation at its extreme: how powerful are submarine caldera-forming eruptions (Kermadec arc)?" The voyage took place between March 15, 2022 and April 19, 2022 (AEST), departing from Hobart and returning to Hobart. The main area of survey was the Kermadec arc off of New Zealand. The Simrad EK60 split beam GPT for 18kHz and Simrad EK80 split beam WBTs for 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 1500 m during transits and to full ocean depth while at the New Zealand/Kermadec survey area. All frequencies were logged continuously for the extent of the voyage, except for a period of time between 26/03/2022 05:00 and 29/03/2022 11:05 UTC when all data recording was mandated to be suspended. The 70kHz was occasionally set to passive while in shallow water to limit interference with the EM710 multibeam. Data are stored in *.raw, *.bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 1773 files totalling 110 GB of raw data in this dataset. Transit data between Hobart and the New Zealand EEZ were post-processed for the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and posted to the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) Portal. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request.

  • This record describes sub bottom profiler data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2022_V02, titled "Sedimentation at its extreme: how powerful are submarine caldera-forming eruptions (Kermadec arc)?" The voyage took place between March 15, 2022 and April 19, 2022 (AEST), departing from Hobart and returning to Hobart.The main area of survey was the Kermadec arc off of northern New Zealand. The Kongsberg SBP120 (sub bottom profiler) was used to acquire data containing the specular reflections at different sediment interfaces below the seafloor. The SBP120 provides a 3° by 3° angular resolution. General settings used were Linear Chirp Up, Matched Filter, 10 ms pulse length, 250 ms window size. Sub bottom profilers in general do not perform well with hard rocky substrates and/or steep and irregular terrain. The working area was subject to these limitations which made SBP data acquisition challenging and affected the resultant data. The SBP performed well over areas with flat seafloor. The echosounder's frequency sweep range is from 2.5 to 7 kHz. The SBP120 was logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in *.raw (744 files 12.5 GB) raw and *.seg (738 files 12.4 GB) segy formats at CSIRO. The segy format data had a real time processing stream applied, which applies gain, a gain correction and matched filter with replica shaping. Instantaneous amplitude and time variable gain were not applied on acquisition. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products, including processed *.segy files with instantaneous amplitude applied, may be available on request.

  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data was not collected on Southern Surveyor voyage SS2011_T02. The voyage took place in the Tasman Sea on a tranist voyage from Auckland to Hobart from the 7th to the 15th June, 2011. The ADCP unit was in the US for repairs.

  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data was not collected on Southern Surveyor voyage SS2011_V02. The voyage took place East of Australia, 30ºS along to 170W (along the western end of the GP13 zonal section (~30oS) east of Australia) from the 14th May to the 5th June, 2011. No ADCP data was collected the ADCP unit was in the US for repairs.

  • This dataset contains the Hydrology (HYD) data collected on Franklin voyage FR 05/2001. The voyage took place in The Pacific Ocean in waters off Wellington New Zealand via the Chatham Rise then north to the equator during May, June and July 2001. This dataset has been processed and archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. The nutrient data was re-processed in 2009. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and in the data processing reports linked to this record. Franklin on-voyage hydrology data are typically obtained from water samples collected in Niskin bottles at various depths during each CTD cast. Parameters measured normally comprise temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, silicate and nitrite.
