This collection of Southern Hemisphere Deep-sea Corals consists of antipatherians (black corals), gorgonians (soft corals) and scleractinians (stony corals). This includes both live caught, sub-fossil and fossil material. Some samples date back to ca. 20,000 years before present; some of the un-dated material (based on work on samples sent to Californian Institute of Technology) are likely to be very much older. The collection is housed at CSIRO Marine Laboratories in Hobart, Tasmania.

Collection of deep sea fish earbones (Otoliths) - Blue Grenadier, 180 pairs, collected in 2003, from Western Tasmanian Waters. - Orange Roughy, 21 pairs, collected 2000, from Albany, Western Australia. - Orange Roughy, 1040 pairs, collected 2002, from the South Tasman Rise. These specimens were collected for future CMAR research analyses as required.

The O&A Marine Plankton Collection comprises of historical zooplankton samples collected between 1940 - 1996. The collection is housed at the EcoSciences Precinct, Dutton Park, QLD. The collection includes: (1) Phytoplankton and zooplankton samples collected by the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) Australian Continuous Plankton Recorder survey (AusCPR) (2) Zooplankton samples from the IMOS National Reference Stations program. (3) Detailed information regarding the plankton collection held at Dutton Park was added in August 2014 (refer to: Plankton_Historic_samples_ sorted_ by_AF_24_06_2014.xlsx). This cruise took place in the east Indian Ocean during 4 November - 15 December 1987, under the leadership of Tim Davis and J. May. Biological data collected on this cruise include abundance and growth rate of southern bluefin tuna larvae from a total of 240 stations. Information on the vertical distribution of the tuna larvae in relation to the thermocline. Tuna larvae samples to study the relation between food availablity and abundance, diet and growth. Specimens for electrophoresis and 169 tuna larvae were identified and their pigment distribution mapped. One tuna was caught from light trap tests, the catches being mainly stomatopods (crustaceans) and myctophids (lanternfish). This record is an overview entry for biological data collected on Soela cruise SO 2/87. This cruise took place in the Southern Ocean off the west coast of Tasmania and in the Tasman Sea off the northeast coast of Tasmania during 1-14 April 1987, under the leadership of F.R. Harden Jones. Biological data collected on this cruise include length frequency, weight, gonad weight and stage from 169 orange roughy samples. 164 orange roughy stomachs were examined, 32% were empty. Of the remainder, 95% contained crustacea and 23% fish. 7 roughy had squid parts in their stomachs and one had polychaete remains. Otoliths were collected for age determinations and ovaries from 36 females for fecundity determinations. Other species caught were the spiky oreo (Neocyttus rhomboidalis) and two large (true) hake (Merluccius australis). Acoustic and echosounder data of fish shoals. Three phyllosoma larvae samples from codend liner whilst conducting a midwater trawl on the Sandy Cape Ground.
