The voyage departed Brisbane on 28th September 2016. Leg 1 ended on 11 October with a personnel transfer at Fitzroy Island. Leg 2 ended on 16 October with another personnel transfer at Magnetic Island, then the voyage ended in Brisbane on 24 October 2016. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter during most of the survey. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 489 files totalling 393 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format. Additional information regarding this dataset, including further information on processing streams, is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request.

  • This record describes sub bottom profiler data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2016_v05, "The Great Barrier Reef as a significant source of climatically relevant aerosol particles." The voyage departed Brisbane on 28th September 2016. Leg 1 ended on 11 October with a personnel transfer at Fitzroy Island. Leg 2 ended on 16 October with another personnel transfer at Magnetic Island, then the voyage ended in Brisbane on 24 October 2016. The Kongsberg SBP120 (sub bottom profiler) was used to acquire data containing the specular reflections at different sediment interfaces below the seafloor. The SBP120 provides a 3° by 3° angular resolution. The echosounder's frequency sweep range is from 2.5 to 7 kHz. The SBP120 was logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in *.raw (71 files 14.4 GB) raw and *.seg (71 files 14.3 GB) segy formats at CSIRO. The segy format data had a real time processing stream applied, which applies gain, a gain correction, matched filter with replica shaping, an attribute calculation for instantaneous amplitude and time variable gain. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the GSM data acquisition and processing report. Additional data products may be available on request

  • This record describes the data collected on the RV Investigator Voyage IN2016_V05 Titled: "The Great Barrier Reef as a significant source of climatically relevant aerosol particles." The voyage took place between September 26 and October 24, 2016 departing from Brisbane (QLD) and arriving in Brisbane. Instrument Name: Microtops II Ozone Monitor- Sunphotometer, ECN # 2624374, is a hand-held multi-band sunphotometer capable of measuring the total ozone column and optionally the water vapor column (also called precipitable water) as well as aerosol optical thickness at 1020nm. Parameters measured: AOD (Aerosol Optical Depth). Data format: .xls, Owner of instrument: NASA. Further Information can be found in the data and documentation links below.

  • This record describes the upper meteorological data collected with combined dual sensing by Windsond and Anasphere tethersonde on the RV Investigator Voyages from 2016 onwards. Parameters measured: pressure, temperature, relative humidity directly, then derived values for height, dew point, vapour pressure, mixing ratio and potential temperature. This data will also be available at the Australian Ocean Data Network (portal.aodn.org.au) and the World Data Centre for Greenhouse Gases (https://ds.data.jma.go.jp/gmd/wdcgg/). Further information can be found in the data and documentation links below.

  • This record describes the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator research voyage in2016_v05, titled "The Great Barrier Reef as a significant source of climatically relevant aerosol particles." The voyage took place from Brisbane (QLD) to Brisbane between September 28 and October 24, 2016. Data was collected during in2016_v05 for the duration of the voyage. Data was collected using VMDAS and post-processed using CODAS. See the voyage computing and electronics report for more details regarding data acquisition. Drop keels were both deployed at mid extension, approx. 8.5m below the waterline. Data coverage and quality is generally very good. The voyage was conducted almost entirely in shallow waters around the Great Barrier Reef, therefore the OS75 (a deep water instrument) sometime struggled to get good profiles. The OS150 should be considered the better dataset for most use. Some editing was required. The University of Hawaii’s CODAS software was used for data post-processing. This dataset was processed and then archived within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart.
