  • This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2016_T01, 'Continuity of Australian terranes into Zealandia: towards a geological map of the east Gondwana margin' which departed Lautoka on the 30th June 2016 and returned to Hobart on the 14th July 2016. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders 12, 18, 38, 70, 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 500 - 2200 m, around Lord Howe Rise and North Loyalty Basin. All frequencies were logged continuously/sporadically for the extent of the voyage. The frequencies were set to passive during the voyage. Data are stored in *.raw, *.bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 1764 files totalling 64.7 GB of raw data in this dataset. No processing has been conducted on this data.   • This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2016_T02, transit from Hobart to Sydney which departed Hobart on the 25 August 2016 and arrived in Sydney on the 29 August 2016. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a maximum range of 1500 m, between Hobart and Sydney. All frequencies were logged continuously for the extent of the transit. Data are stored in *.raw, *.bot and *.idx format at CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere. There are 432 lines totaling 10.1 GB of raw data in this dataset. No processing has been conducted on this data.   • This record describes Simrad SH90 high definition omnidirectional fishery sonar, 114 kHz data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2019_V01, titled "The availability of Antarctic krill to large predators and their role in biogeochemical recycling in the Southern Ocean" which departed Hobart on the 19th January, 2019 and returned to Hobart on the 5th of March, 2019. The Simrad SH90 provides detailed information about school density, speed, depth, heading and size, with an operational frequency of 114 kHz. The SH90 was logged sporadically to guide krill fishing, and settings were updated/changed constantly with respect to angles and frequencies in real time to point to the krill schools while trawling. Data are stored in Simrad *.raw format at CSIRO. There are 12,861 files totalling 378 GB of raw data in this dataset. The data is available "as is" without any Quality Control measures, post processing or standardized settings. The Simrad ME70 scientific multibeam echosounder acquired acoustic backscatter data through the water column using a variety of configurations for testing purposes. The echosounder's frequency range is from 70 kHz to 120 kHz. The ME70 logged sporadically for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in Simrad *.raw format at CSIRO.   • This record describes sub bottom profiler data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2017_V05, 'Long-term recovery of trawled marine communities 25 years after the world's largest adaptive management experiment', which departed Broome on the 11 October 2017 and returned to Henderson on the 10 November 2017. The Kongsberg SBP120 (sub bottom profiler) was used to acquire data containing the specular reflections at different sediment interfaces below the seafloor. The SBP120 provides a 3° by 3° angular resolution. The echosounder's frequency sweep range is from 2.5 to 7 kHz. The SBP120 was logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in *.raw 998 files 130 GB raw and *.segy 998 files 130 GB segy formats at CSIRO. The segy format data had a real time processing stream applied, which applies a seabed mute, a bandpass or matched filter dependent on pulse type, and a time variable gain. All *segy files were processed using Seismic Unix. The segy files are converted to *.su format, projected using suutm, trace shifted using sushift and the source coordinates copied to the group coordinates. The su data are written back to segy with utm zone number stored in byte 21 and group coordinates in byte locations 81 and 85.   • This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2019_E01, 'Post-Dry Dock Calibration Trials', which departed Singapore on the 19th July 2019 and returned to Cairns] on the 2nd August 2019. EK60 Calibration data was also collected on this voyage The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 1500 m, within Australia's EEZ in the Arafura sea, the Torres Strait and the Coral Sea. All frequencies were logged continuously for the extent of the voyage within Australia's EEZ. Data are stored in *.raw, *.bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 173 files totalling 15.9 GB of raw data in this dataset. Processing has been conducted on the calibration data only.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2019_V04, 'Hotspot dynamics in the Coral Sea: connections between the Australian plate and deep Earth', which departed Cairns on the 7th August 2019 and returned to Brisbane on the 3rd September 2019. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter on the continental shelf and continental slope to a depth of ~1000m, off Cairns and Brisbane. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 27 files totalling 5.12 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format.
