The CSIRO archive of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Global Analysis and Prediction (GASP) global gridded analysis datasets for the period from 1998 until present. The Global AnalysiS Prediction model uses spectral numerical analysis techniques to provide 6-hourly (00,06,12,18) variables at 60 levels from the surface to 10 hPa with a resolution of 1 deg (approximately 85 km horizontal resolution). Datasets have been tarred into single monthly archives with the following file following folder convention [ /YYYY/YYYYMM.tar (YY=year, MM=month)], with each monthly file being approximately 6-7 MB totaling 75.9 GB per year. Datasets are in netcdf format and are continuously updated.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Aviation (AVN) global gridded analysis datasets for the period from Jan 2002 until the current day. The NCEP AVN gives 6 hourly Atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of 1 degree. It is a time limited model run produced to give global weather forecast predictions for other clients that rely on data being available at a fixed time, especially important for applications such as aviation. The AVN model was superceeded in October 2002 and is now known as the global forecast system (GFS)model, however as other software and systems rely on this folder naming convention {avnYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)} the newer GFS model data is still being saved with this older title. This archive is updated daily.
The Canadian Metrology Center (CMC) gridded datasets containing wind, temperature, specific humidity and other flux's and ground level variables for the period from Jan 2006 until the current day. The CMC gridded dataset consists of 12 hourly (00, 12 UTC) Atmospheric variables at 28 levels with a resolution of 1 deg. Data has been stored with the following folder convention [cmcYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)], approximately 730 files totaling 28.10 GB per year, with each 12 hr file being 38.5 MB. This archive is updated on a daily basis.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) gridded analysis datasets for the period from Dec 2004 until the current day. The NCEP GFS is a global spectral data assimilation and forecast model system giving 6 hourly (00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC) atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of .5 degree. The GFS model superceeded the AVN in October 2002. Data is stored with the following folder convention {gfs2YYMM (YY=year, MM=month)}, this archive is updated on a daily basis.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) final (FNL) gridded analysis datasets for the period from Jan 2000 until the current day. The NCEP GFS is a global spectral data assimilation and forecast model system giving 6 hourly (00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC) atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of .5 degree. The FNL version uses the same GFS model but the analysis is run at 3 hours past synoptic time instead (when more observational data is available), where a shorter (GDAS), 9-hr forecast is run. This 9-hr forecast is presumably of slightly better quality, as its analysis contains more observational information. The GFS model superceeded the AVN model in October 2002. Data is stored under a single folder(fnl) with 6 hourly files Zipped and Tar'd into a single monthly file with the naming convention {gfsYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)}. This archive is updated on a monthly basis.
The Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) global gridded analysis datasets for the period from October 2006 until the current day. NOGAPS is the Department of Defense high resolution global numerical weather prediction system using a spectral model (GSM) with its development being a joint activity of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and the Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). NOGAPS data is available in 12 hourly (00 & 12 UTC) Atmospheric variables at 22 levels with a resolution of 1.25 deg. Data has been stored with the following folder convention [nogapsYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)], approximately 730 files per year totaling 5.64 GB with each 12 hr file being 8.2 MB. This archive is updated on a daily basis.
This record describes the End of Voyage archive from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2014_E03.5. This was a trial voyage departing Hobart on the 21st November and returning to Hobart on the 24th November 2014. Voyage objectives include: ongoing crew training to further develop the ship's safety management system (SMS), develop and implement procedures and JHAs for future scientific operations. Equipment to be used include : Atmospheric Radon, Underway, Bridge 200KHz. Data types to be collected include UWY data (not near real-time), Atmospheric Radon, Bridge 200KHz. The archive for the IN2014_E03.5 EOV data will be held within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere Data Centre in Hobart. The EOV data collected and voyage documentation will be available to the O&A voyage participants via internal network. There is no EOV paper documentation for this voyage. This is the final trial voyage for the RV Investigator departing Hobart on the 29th November and returning to Hobart on the 30th November 2014. The overall voyage objectives include equipment testing and procedure development. Data types to be collected include UWY data (not near real-time), Atmospheric Radon and SST Radiometer. The archive for the IN2014_E04.5 EOV data will be held within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere Data Centre in Hobart. The CSIRO Dawn-2100 archive contains datasets for atmospheric, land and oceanographic variables for the approximate period 1850 - 2100 (dependent on model). These have been created through the concatenation of 20th century (20C3M) and other scenario (currently SRESA1B or SRESA2) data from a number of the 25 differant global climate models (GCM) from various countries. The SRESA2_tmaxmin dataset contains the Air temperature near surface max and min variables for various GCM's and runs (multiple runs being averaged to a single file if existing) under the scenario SRESA2 emissions 2001 to 2100. These variables have also been further analysed to give monthly, seasonal and annual trend data, calculated from a monthly timeseries referenced to the area-weighted mean global warming values. 5 GCM models are available with data for variables being in 12 month, annual and 4 seasons(DJF, MAM,JJA,SON) format with 16 files totaling 1.74 GB as Netcdf files. Available for internal use and analysis by CSIRO staff on the HPSC cherax.
This record describes Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator Event voyage IN2014_E04.5. This is the fourth and final trial voyage for the RV Investigator departing Hobart on the 29th November and returning to Hobart on the 30th November 2014. The overall voyage objectives include equipment testing and procedure development. Data types to be collected include UWY data (not near real-time), Atmospheric Radon and SST Radiometer. The UWY data from this trial voyage was assessed and will not be processed as the quality is too variable to make it feasible/useful. The unprocessed UWY data is part of the EOV archive and will not be released. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report.
