The ECMWF (European Center for Medium range Weather Forecasts) ERA-40 model uses a variational data assimilation system to make a new synthesis of the in-situ and remotely-sensed measurements made worldwide over the period since mid-1957. It produces the basic analysed conventional meteorological wind, temperature and humidity variables as well as stratospheric ozone, ocean-wave and soil conditions. The CSIRO archive contains monthly data for variables concatenated into a single contiguous netcdf file for the time period 1957-2002 with a spatial resolution of 2.5° x 2.5° and has also been further processed to include calculated Anomaly, Climatology and Seasonal forms of this dataset. Trend analysis data is available for specific variables.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Aviation (AVN) global gridded analysis datasets for the period from Jan 2002 until the current day. The NCEP AVN gives 6 hourly Atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of 1 degree. It is a time limited model run produced to give global weather forecast predictions for other clients that rely on data being available at a fixed time, especially important for applications such as aviation. The AVN model was superceeded in October 2002 and is now known as the global forecast system (GFS)model, however as other software and systems rely on this folder naming convention {avnYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)} the newer GFS model data is still being saved with this older title. This archive is updated daily.
The Canadian Metrology Center (CMC) gridded datasets containing wind, temperature, specific humidity and other flux's and ground level variables for the period from Jan 2006 until the current day. The CMC gridded dataset consists of 12 hourly (00, 12 UTC) Atmospheric variables at 28 levels with a resolution of 1 deg. Data has been stored with the following folder convention [cmcYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)], approximately 730 files totaling 28.10 GB per year, with each 12 hr file being 38.5 MB. This archive is updated on a daily basis.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) gridded analysis datasets for the period from Dec 2004 until the current day. The NCEP GFS is a global spectral data assimilation and forecast model system giving 6 hourly (00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC) atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of .5 degree. The GFS model superceeded the AVN in October 2002. Data is stored with the following folder convention {gfs2YYMM (YY=year, MM=month)}, this archive is updated on a daily basis.
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) final (FNL) gridded analysis datasets for the period from Jan 2000 until the current day. The NCEP GFS is a global spectral data assimilation and forecast model system giving 6 hourly (00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC) atmospheric variables at 26 levels with a resolution of .5 degree. The FNL version uses the same GFS model but the analysis is run at 3 hours past synoptic time instead (when more observational data is available), where a shorter (GDAS), 9-hr forecast is run. This 9-hr forecast is presumably of slightly better quality, as its analysis contains more observational information. The GFS model superceeded the AVN model in October 2002. Data is stored under a single folder(fnl) with 6 hourly files Zipped and Tar'd into a single monthly file with the naming convention {gfsYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)}. This archive is updated on a monthly basis.
The Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) global gridded analysis datasets for the period from October 2006 until the current day. NOGAPS is the Department of Defense high resolution global numerical weather prediction system using a spectral model (GSM) with its development being a joint activity of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and the Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). NOGAPS data is available in 12 hourly (00 & 12 UTC) Atmospheric variables at 22 levels with a resolution of 1.25 deg. Data has been stored with the following folder convention [nogapsYYMM (YY=year, MM=month)], approximately 730 files per year totaling 5.64 GB with each 12 hr file being 8.2 MB. This archive is updated on a daily basis.
The CSIRO archive of the 2007 Sydney Health or Sydney Water Project Regional Climate Model dataset for the Australasia region for the years 1961-2100. Created with the CSIRO Cubic Conformal Atmospheric Model (CCAM) Regional Climate Model (RCM) by dynamically downscaling the CSIRO Mk3.0 A2 M20th Global Climate Model output over a target area centered on the Australasia region. This dataset was also supplied to the Air Pollution Group as part of a study examining the possible health problems associated with the future environmental air quality conditions. The CCAM model was nested in the CSIRO Mk3.0 Global Climate model (GCM) host for the A2 scenario with the M20th scenario as greenhouse emissions corresponding to 1961-2000. 4X-Daily, Monthly mean and seasonal atmospheric variables are available between Lat: 15, -50 & Lon: 70, 200 at 6 levels (1000, 850, 700, 500, 300, 200 hPa) with .5º (60km) resolution. There are 1687 daily files totalling 2.39 TB, and 3122 monthly_mean & seasonal files totaling 94.3 GB. All files are in netcdf format and are available for internal use and analysis by CSIRO staff on the HPSC cherax.
The CSIRO arcive of the South East Australian Climate Initiative (SEACI) Regional Climate Model dataset for the Murray Darling Basin region for the years 1950-2000. Created with the CSIRO Cubic Conformal Atmospheric Model (CCAM) Regional Climate Model (RCM) by dynamically downscaling the NCEP reanalysis model output over a target area centered on south eastern Australia.
