3D Trajectories and Positioning Data of Individuals in an Antarctic Krill Swarm: TEMPO Observations from the RV Investigator voyage IN2021_V01

This record describes 3D coordinates of individual Antarctic krill collected during the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator research voyage IN2021_V01, titled “Quantifying krill abundance for krill monitoring and management off the Australian Antarctic Territory.” The voyage occurred from Hobart (TAS) to Hobart between 29 January and 24 March 2021 (AEST) as part of the 2021 TEMPO (Trends in Euphausiids off Mawson, Predators, and Oceanography) survey. The data were obtained using an array of 10 GoPro Hero-8 cameras deployed into krill swarms to study their individual behaviour in natural conditions. The primary goal was to support estimates of krill biomass for updating catch limits in CCAMLR's Division 58.4.2-East. The Swarm study aimed to replicate methods from Burns et al. (2023), examining krill behaviour at the individual level. The dataset includes two parts: TEMPO_Orientation (head and tail coordinates of 305 krill) and TEMPO_Tracks (coordinates from video frames). Data includes camera details, horizontal distances, frame references, and converted 3D coordinates.
