Albatross Bay Phytoplankton Data 1986-1992
The biomass and species composition of tropical phytoplankton in Albatross Bay, Gulf of Carpentaria, northern Australia, were examined monthly for six years between March 1986 and April 1992. Phytoplankton taxonomic groups were identified to genus level, and described as dominant, common or rare. Refer to the cited publication for detailed methodology.

STN_DATE - The date of sampling.
X_COORD - Longitude in decimal degrees. Nominal scale 1:2000000.
Y_COORD - Latitude in decimal degrees. Nominal scale 1:2000000.
SAMPLER_CODE - Describes the net type used (FK: SAMPLER_CODES.SAMPLER_CODE). 'G' is the code for a surf to bottom drop net, using a 0.6 metre square frame with 37 micron mesh (Gustaf Hallegraf design).

Data is managed in an Oracle database. It is currently being migrated into the CMR data warehouse, Hobart. Data was converted to excel and GIS - ARC/INFO format by Donna Hayes at CMAR, CSIRO to map the seasonality of dominant phytoplankton groups.
